| How To Replace a Broken Compaq V5000 Laptop Screen Posted: 16 Mar 2011 05:44 AM PDT When it comes to replacing a screen in a laptop computer, the process seems hard, but actually there aren't as many things to do. You do need to pay attention and run everything carefully, because you will be handling with screws, cables. In order to get to the screen of your laptop, you need t disassemble a good part of the system, almost half of it, but don't worry as things will go on fast. Components are easy to take out and in less than an hour you can get the job done and even turn on the laptop to see if the new screen works. So, how to replace a broken Compaq v5000 laptop screen? You will need the replacing screen, the Philips screwdriver and a flat-head screwdriver. So let's get it done and see the steps you need to follow.  First of all, you have to shut down the laptop and pull out the power cord. You don't want anything with electricity around the laptop while you are handling it. Next, remove the external components, close the display and turn the laptop over. On the bottom of the laptop is the battery cover, so remove the cover and then the battery. In the middle of the base should be the memory module compartment, there is one screw to take out and then you will be able to remove the cover. Now locate the mini PCI card in the compartment, which is usually covered by the metal memory shield and afterwards disconnect the two antennas cable on it. The two screws on the top left and the top right of the base should also be removed. In the battery bay there are two switch cover screws that need to be extracted as well. Now you can flip the laptop over and open the display as much as possible, but don't force it too much though.  The tabs above the "F1", "F5", "F11" and "insert" should be lifted in order to release the switch cover. At the top of the keyboard are four screws, after you remove them you can flip the keyboard over the palm rest. Be careful as underneath the keyboard is the flat cable, only after disconnecting this cable you can remove the keyboard from the computer. The display cable is on the top-right of the laptop and it also needs to be disconnected. On the opposite sides of the switch cover space are the antenna cables and they will be able to move freely once you take them out of their guide. On each display hinge there are screws, four to be more exact, after you extract them you can lift the display up. Around the display there are six rubber buffers that need to be removed and then you can unscrew the screws beneath them. After you separate the display face from the back cover you can disconnect the two cables on the bottom of the Compaq display.  Remove the base covers from the display by extracting each screw on the hinge base. Across the bottom of the screen there are other four screws, take them out and you will be able to remove the screen from the display. After you have replaced the screen with a new one, follow all the steps in reverse to put the laptop back together.   |
