Laptop Computers

Posted: 21 Mar 2011 05:02 AM PDT

There are slight differences between laptop, notebook computers, but along the time, these differences become more and more unnoticeable. Most of the times, they were related to the configuration. Laptops used to be more powerful and have the latest specs, while notebooks could perform just the basic tasks and some even lacked the optical drive.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

But clearly, these days this is not available anymore. We can see some notebook computers that could easily take laptops and place them on second spot. Just look at some Apple MacBook notebooks, Alienware m11x, Sony Vaio and more. These have proven to us all that we are starting to forget what notebooks really are or were and start placing all portable systems in one category. Notebooks are indeed more portable than laptops, because they have smaller sizes, thus being lighter and more compact. But that's all to it, size.

And because we said the differences are not as noticeable anymore, let's see some of the best laptop and notebook computers and how can we appreciate them. It is pointless to say again, that in both categories, Apple MacBook Pro is one of the best portable systems in the world. They bring outstanding performance and due to their operating system you can benefit from some applications never seen before. The battery life is more than excellent, great touch pad, the best actually and not to mention the design. Although these might cost a lot, especially if you decide to go for some upgrades, these laptops and notebooks will remain everybody's dream. Priced lower, up to $1000 actually, Toshiba Portege comes with a slim and sleek design, amazing keyboard and touch pad, 4G wireless included, Intel wireless display and a solid value. You can say these systems from this series are close to being the perfect balance between design, performance and price.

Only regarding laptops, HP Envy does everything by the book. It offers an attractive, slim design, full HD gorgeous 17" display, configuration to allow you to play even the most intensive games and run applications as well. And there is even the HP Envy 3D, which enables watching 3D content. Get a pair of 3D glasses and let the fun and striking reality begin in the comfort of your own home. In the notebook category, with a 14" display, we can place Asus U41JF-A1, with durable battery life (up to 8 hours), NVIDIA 400 series graphics (exactly what gamers are looking for), powerful Intel Core i3 processor, light, reasonably priced and good looking thanks to the aluminum design, a great example of a mainstream notebook. Dell can't be left out of the question, because the company has gained its right of being in the "best" list. The XPS 15 is a powerful series with reasonably-sized laptops, depending on how portable you want them to be.

The thing that attracts here is the HD webcam, the first one introduced in a laptop computer. Among other features we can mention the Nvidia GeForce GT 420M graphics, Optimus technology, great and comfortable keyboard, HDMI port and all for a reasonable price. If you are ready for this, you will have to sacrifice the battery life, because the 6-cell one will not face it all on its own. And in the same category you can look up the Sony Vaio laptops and notebooks, but prepare for the higher price tag.

Notebook Computers for Sale

Posted: 20 Mar 2011 08:30 AM PDT

Notebook computers for sale should be priced lower, because they are smaller than laptops, so thus the thinking is not wrong. But in some cases, usually most of the cases, notebook computers are not as cheap as you think they are. Of course, if we take the major manufacturers into account and their latest creations, we can definitely say not affordable from the start.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

But if you are looking for something portable, something to easily carry around and have place to deposit it, then you need a notebook computer and not a laptop. Notebook computers have almost the same prices as laptops, so in case you need such a system, you should be prepared to spend some money

Let's take for example Apple, the MacBook might be the $999 notebook, but once you start adding some upgrades, you will easily how the price "jumps" over the hedge and you will be surprised. The same thing happens with Alienware notebook, the m11x, which has a reasonable starting price, but once you configure it, it is pointless to say where you will end up. Actually this is the case of most notebook computers. This is why it is important to see from the start which is your area of interest, what kind of notebook you are looking for and even if you have a favorite brand. In case you don't want to spend a fortune on a brand new notebook, then you can see MSI CR650, priced around $499, offering great audio quality, a comfortable keyboard, long battery life (above average for that matter), for the price range strong graphics and even if you keep the notebook running for a while, it will still remain cool. But for this price you should not expect blazing performance, give the notebook some time until it boots and use it for basic computing tasks.

In the same budget-like category, we can even place Compaq Presario, which is the HP budget category of notebook and laptop computers. You can easily find some reliable systems for under $500 and save some money on a comfy notebook case or some accessories. If you want something a bit more evolved and you still want to spend under $1000, then you might be impressed by Samsung SF510, which is known for its design, audio quality, long battery life and powerful configuration for a 15" size. With the Intel Core i3 CPU, this notebook computer for sale is designed to meet the expectation of the users looking for something reliable and more performing for their everyday use. HP Pavilion is known for its entertainment features, bringing up all you need to set up your own home-entertainment center. But Dell XPS 15 is nothing to be left aside. The notebook features the 1080p display, NVIDIA graphics, Blu-ray drive and excellent sound quality. But in this case, the price is almost $1500.

From the same manufacturer we have Dell Vostro V3300, but below $1000. In this case, the notebook is oriented more to business-people, having a great keyboard plus touch pad, lid options with various colors, the booting time is fast and the overall performance is more than satisfying. In the same category, business, we can also place Lenovo ThinkPad X220, with mostly the same good features as the previous model.

How to Upgrade a Compaq Presario F700 Notebook Hard Drive

Posted: 20 Mar 2011 08:25 AM PDT

Because applications tend to require much more space than used to, upgrades are required when it comes to memory. Once you start downloading software or installing games, creating documents, saving photos and more, the hard drive starts becoming full and little space is left behind for you to use. Uninstalling programs is one of the solutions, but in some cases you might still need them, so maybe it is not the best answer.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

So how to upgrade a Compaq Presario F700 notebook hard drive? Well the process can be done quickly and this is because you just need to remove a single plastic cover first. The items you will need include a USB memory drive or an external hard drive, a Philips screwdriver, the replacement hard drive and a Compaq recovery disc.

First of all, you have to save copies of your important data on an external device. You can't risk losing everything, because if you do this it would be like formatting your notebook and thus the upgrade has no sense to be done. After you have done saving, you need to turn your notebook off and close the display lid. Furthermore, disconnect the power cable on the side of the Compaq Presario f700 notebook and remove any of the external devices you have plugged in. After you have done all these, you can flip the notebook over. On the upper-left end of the case should be located the battery release latch. In order to unlock the battery, you have to push down the latch and slide it to the left. Now lift the battery and place it aside. You should have a container for depositing all the screws and the components, so you don't misplace them.

There are two hard drive cover screws that need to be removed on the lower-right end of the case, using the Philips head screwdriver. Now you can pull off the hard drive cover. Grab the right side plastic tab of the hard drive and lift the hard drive out of the notebook. Now get your new hard drive and place it into the port and put back the plastic cover and the screws. After you have done replacing the battery, you can flip the Compaq Presario F700 notebook over and open the display lid, power up the notebook and check to see if the hard drive is properly installed. You can download additional software from Compaq Presario's website and you can also require support on their website, though e-mail or calling. Be careful and check the static electricity you have by touching a metal object with your fingers. In case there is any, you can wear an anti-static wrist strap.

You can shop for a new hard drive online and depending on the amount of storage offered, the price can vary. You can also check the specifications of the Compaq Presario F700 notebook and see the maximum amount of memory you can add and which hard drive is compatible with the notebook, depending on the configuration.

The fan along with the heat sink in a notebook computer contributes in cooling the processor and preventing the system from overheating. If the fan stops working, then you will not be able to use your notebook, as it would definitely fry. This is why, repairing the fan or detecting any problem related to it is very important for the health of your system.
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

Above the keyboard there are four screws that need to be removed. Now you can lift up the keyboard and unplug the cable, which connects it to the top panel. Put the keyboard aside, along with the other components and the screws. Under the LCD screen are connected the wireless antenna cable and the screen cable, both of them need to be removed. What is the Difference between a Notebook and a Laptop

Posted: 20 Mar 2011 07:55 AM PDT

What is the difference between a notebook and a laptop? Well actually all is related to size. A notebook is a portable system and a laptop is more or less a desktop replacement. In most situations, a laptop has sizes over 15.6", while a notebook can go as far as 15.4".
<-300x250 Medium Rectangle - center->

You see this confusion done online, in stores and more when a 14" system is called a laptop and a 17" a notebook. It is not the case, but due to the configuration inside, some consider them laptops and some notebooks. It is a well known fact that laptops are more powerful and they hold a solid configuration inside, while notebooks are designed more for everyday use, being more portable.

Everyday use means surfing the internet, watching some movie, checking e-mails, editing documents, managing photos and so on. When you are at home, you want to do more, you want to run intensive applications, be able to play games, watch HD content and more. On today's market you can find some powerful systems that don't keep track of how they are called. If a system has a solid configuration, it doesn't matter what it is. But check the size of the portable unit you are going to buy and the weight, so you will know from the start how portable is it going to be. Just take a look at any laptop online, from any of the big manufacturers out there. Most of them use the latest technologies, latest components and each one tries hard to impress. But notebooks don't give up at all, Apple MacBook is the $999 powerful notebook, bringing Intel Core Duo processors and NVIDIA graphics, something you don't see in a 13" system. But there is also Alienware m11x, which is one of the most powerful, if not the only one that has a tiny size, but power-horse features inside. Back in the days, things were different. Components couldn't be designed to fit in such small systems, so most of the notebooks didn't have an optical drive even. It is like the mini laptops you see on the market. They are ultra-portable, but they can't manage much. We can definitely see that technology is evolving day by day and it is hard to keep up with it.

Today you might have the best laptop or notebook on the market, but perhaps tomorrow you will be amazed on what comes next. And it is pretty expensive to always be able to upgrade and have the latest system. It was something to be able to watch HD movies on a portable system, but now that you can watch and play 3D content, what can you say more? DVD optical drives were something, but Blu-ray is starting to come out now. In the end, it doesn't matter how they call them, it matters more what you buy, the portability, size and configuration of the system. The name is less important if you can find some good deals and especially if you can get a decent display size so you don't feel cramped in any way. So, don't get influenced too much of the names and how they call them, be more influenced on the configuration, category of the systems and what they offer.
